Certified translations of qualifications and transcripts are often requested as part of visa applications and applications to study in the UK. For a professional approved translation you must ensure that your translation is provided by a fully qualified translator for German into English.

There are no certified translators or sworn translators in the UK. Instead, a professional translator tasked with providing approved document translations into English must be qualified full members of a professional institute like the Chartered Institute of Linguists or the Institute of Translation and Interpreting who can certify their own translations. These professinoal approved translations are accepted by the Home Office, universities, colleges and schools for all official purposes.

The Home Office and academic institutions accept official translations of qualifications and transcripts provided by translators in the UK if:

• the translator is a qualified and full member of language institute like the Institute of Translation & Interpreting (ITI) or the Chartered Institute of Linguists (CIoL).
• the translator works for a company that is a member of the Association of Translation Companies.

Home Office Guidance

The UK Home Office guidance for a certified translation of all official documents from German into English states:

If you need to provide a certified translation qualifications that are not written in English or Welsh

• it must be accompanied by a full translation that can be verified by the Home Office. All translations must contain:
• confirmation from the translator that it is an accurate translation of the original document
• the date of translation
• the translator’s full name and signature
• the translator’s qualifications and professional affiliation
• the translator’s contact details
