Instead, all fully qualified translators who are members of a professional institute such as the London-based Chartered Institute of Linguists and the Institute of Translation and Interpreting are able to certify their own translations. These certified translations are accepted by the Home Office and all other UK government bodies for all official purposes.

The Home Office accepts certified official translations of employment contracts created by a UK‑based translator when:

• the translator is a member of an official professional organisation, such as Chartered Institute of Linguists (CIoL) or the Institute of Translation & Interpreting (ITI).
• the translator works for a translation agency that is a member of the Association of Translation Companies.

When you need to submit a certified translation of your employment contract that’s not written in English or Welsh

• the original document must be submitted together with a full translation that can be independently verified by the Home Office. All translations must include:

• confirmation from the translator that the attached translation is an accurate translation of the original document
• date the translation was created
• translator’s full name and contact information
• the translator’s qualifications and professional affiliation
