Certified Official Translation of Gender Recognition Certificates
My official certified translations of gender recognition certificates (GRC) are accepted by the UK Home Office, all UK Government Departments, UK NARIC, HM Passport Office, Embassies, British insurance companies and banks, as well as universities, further education colleges and schools.
Qualification Requirements
If you require a certified translation of a gender recognition certificate from German into English, you must be certain that the translator you use is fully qualified and that their translations are accepted by all official bodies.
There are no German sworn translators or German certified translators in the UK. Rather, translators who are qualified and members of a professional institute like the Chartered Institute of Linguists or the Institute of Translation and Interpreting are able to certify their own translations. These translations are accepted for all official purposes by the Home Office and all other UK government bodies and institutions.
The Home Office accepts certified translations of gender recognition certificates provided by a UK-based translator if:
- the translator is a member of an official professional organisation, such as the Institute of Translation & Interpreting (ITI) or the Chartered Institute of Linguists (CIoL).
- the translator works for a company that belongs to the Association of Translation Companies.
Home Office Guidance
Home Office guidance for certified translations of gender recognition certificates from German into English states the following:
If you need to provide a certified translation of a gender recognition certificate that is not written in Welsh or English:
- it must be accompanied by a full translation that can be independently verified by the Home Office. All translations must include:
- confirmation from the translator that the document is an accurate translation of the original document
- the date of translation
- the translator’s full name and signature
- the translator’s qualifications and professional affiliation
- the translator’s contact details
Full information on translations accepted by the Home Office can be found on page 48 in this pdf file.
