Romanian-English translations, UK

Camelia Popescu Dip Trans IoLET MCIL

About me

I am Camelia Popescu. I provide Romanian-English translations and other language-related services. Although a native Romanian, I have been living and working in the UK since 2003. I currently live in London.

I enjoy the challenges of a technical document as much as those of literary translations. As quality is my number one priority, I am meticulous in my work.

I supply Romanian-English certified translation services for UK use.

My keen interest in the English language started during the early years of foreign language classes at secondary school. The two-hour weekly lessons proved insufficient for my needs as they did not allow me to absorb and perfect my knowledge to my satisfaction. So I studied English on my own, using all tools available to me. I was so keen, I spent half of my very first salary on a 75,000-entry English-Romanian-English dictionary.

Translation qualification

I sat the Diploma in Translation examination provided by the Chartered Institute of Linguists in 2007, passing all three units and achieving a distinction in literature. Due to my inquisitive nature and my need to be good at what I do, I continually expand my professional horizons.

Membership of professional bodies

I am a member of the Chartered Institute of Linguists as well as the Society of Authors which I joined in 2016.

Independent Romanian-English translations

First of all, I translate business and commercial documents. The types of texts I work on include general correspondence and marketing texts (websites, brochures, trade fair documentation). I also specialise in financial texts.

The legal documents I have taken on include contracts, police clearance certificates, birth, marriage and divorce certificates etc.

Other areas of specialisation are literature, social services documents and technical translations (tools, machinery).

As English is not my first language, my Romanian to English translations will be checked/proofread by a senior or a native English fellow translator.

Romanian-English certified and notarised translation services

Certified translations for the use of UK authorities/companies

I provide self-certified Romanian-English translations of documents for use within the UK.

If required, a UK notary public will notarise the translated document.

Certified translations for use in Romania

Please read up on the rules on notarised translations for use by Romanian authorities on our Romanian certification rules page.

Always ask the organisation requesting the translation of your documents which type of certification they require.

Romanian-English translation rates

My Romanian-English translation rates range from £75 to £110 per 1,000 words or source language. Prices vary so much because when calculating translation rates I have to take into account a number of factors.

Please note that I always require sight of the document in question before providing a quote. This is accepted industry practice. It is necessary because the translator needs to check the text for the factors that influence the applicable translation rate. These include the volume of words, the subject, complexity, layout and formatting. Your envisaged deadline will also be taken into account before quoting a price.

My minimum charge for short documents is £25 to £35 for up to 300 words. However, for very short texts the rate may be negotiable.

I am not VAT registered, so the price quoted will be the price invoiced.

Quotation requests

Please visit the Contact me page to find out how to send me your Romanian-English translation project. Feel free to phone me for an initial discussion of your specific translation requirements.

Payment options

I accept payment by bank transfer, PayPal or TransferWise. My payment terms will be stated on the invoice.
